Melly is looking for a new job. The old job was no longer her. All the novelty and thrill of discovery was gone. The world had become gray. This was not ok for Melly.
She wants to be happy. The baby, the house. It all gave her something she could not find at work. What was work for? - she remembered thinking. The mortgage was a big burden. It almost prevented her from quitting.
For months she agonized over her decision. No one is free from financial considerations, and the baby was a big responsibility. On the other hand, her job made her feel boxed in, slowly drowning her in one meaningless task after another.
Finally she could not take it anymore. Melly does not want to hate her job. Once it had seemed like a bright opportunity, filled with promise. Now she has to get out, to find a place where she can be happy.
